4. Share your experiences and photos with us on REI Conversations on the "Outside with Kids" board, here.

Explore California State Parks with Parks Online Resources for Teachers and Students (PORTS)®. PORTS provides K-12th grade students the opportunity to connect with the diverse cultural, natural, and historic resources of our State through virtual field-trip experiences. This year, PORTS will be providing Home Learning Programs for K - 12 communities learning from home and On-Demand Programs for connections with students in their digital or in-person classrooms.
Join REI and PORTS every third Wednesday of the month for "REI Day with PORTS," a special edition of PORTS' Home Learning Program for those students learning from their homes. On "REI Day with PORTS," PORTS and REI will provide a variety of live, interactive opportunities for K-8 students to stay connected to our state's precious natural, cultural, and historical resources. The monthly special edition content will be delivered by State Park Interpreters and REI Green Vest experts. For those of us who love the outdoors, another milepost beckons: first hike. There’s no one right answer as to when, though many would urge that you get out there “as early as possible.” Parenting a newborn is a stressful endeavor, and fresh parents and fresh air can work wonders.
A comfortable kid outdoors is a happy kid outdoors. One key to keeping them comfortable is making sure they’re dressed appropriately for the conditions. But knowing how to outfit your child for the outdoors, where the weather can quickly change from hot and sunny to cold and wet, isn’t always simple, especially given that a child may not be able to tell you if they are hot or cold. That said, there are some guidelines and tips that should help set your child up for a successful outdoor experience.
